This very, very small home: less than 1000 sq. ft, was built for a bachelor who had lived on his boat for many years. This stucco fireplace was framed and plastered in place, with custom upholstery added. The lighting and firescreen are custom wrought iron fixtures made by Steven Handelman Studios. The walls are custom faux finished for warmth. Handmade terra cotta tiles are handwaxed in a dark wax finish, with a handknotted rug. Built by Droney Construction

Maraya Interior Design The entire fireplace is made from plaster, and the cushions have custom upholstered seats and pillows. The fireplace doors were custom made by a local wrought iron craftsman especially for the job.
Maraya Interior Design The paint in this entire house was made up entirely by the artisan on the job. We selected the painter's tints, and mixed it up like an artist's palette. This is a faux finish, so there are several colors on top of colors.
Maraya Interior Design This floor material: terr cotta, was custom made by Quarry Resources in Santa Barbara. We had it waxed with a brown wax to age it.
What: If storage or display isn't useful to you, how about some extra seating? And again, don't forget the wood for your wood-burning fireplace. How: Instead of using wood for the seats, the same stucco as the fireplace surround was continued to create benches with angled backs, and custom cushions were made for the top. Wood for burning is nestled below the fireplace. Can't get anymore convenient than that!Style: Using stucco for the benches was a great choice to create a seamless look with the style of the fireplace surround.
