Love this! How big is the patio and what were the cost of materials and how did you do it? - We want to do this exact project in our backyard but have never done anything like this! We just bought our house in January and are excited to landscape! Can you give us any tips for doing this project? »
Deb Welch Lauren, It's about 12 ft. in diameter. We used a sod cutter to remove the appropriate amount of sod. We started with a fire ring from a home improvement store. We dug that into the ground about 3 in. deep and then dug the center of that out about 1 ft deep and filled that with gravel. We then bordered the ring with stone. We laid out the flagstone and added a paver border. We filled the gaps in between the flagstone with pea gravel. We later went back and buried a pipe into the gravel to the nearby hillside to drain any water that might accumulate in the pit. We needed to do this because we have thin topsoil and then clay and it wouldn't drain on it's own when it rained. Depending on your drainage you may not need to do this. Approximate cost $250-$300.
The simple enclosure would prevent the feeling that there were wolves lurking in the woods at night while using the circular firepit Homey eclectic mix of chairs, there might be a fight over the Hand Chair.
