third eye. A CB2 one of a find. Trinetra—inspired by the third eye of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology—is the artistic vision of designer Ayush Kasliwal, a young Indian industrial designer who is keeping the traditional skills of local craftsmen alive with the creation of modern objects that can have a global impact. Executed with the highest degree of technical skill, descendants of the Thathera metalworkers of Jaipur transform simple brass sheet into an elegant trio of candlelight pods, hammering one mallet stroke at a time. Suspended by brass rods in three varying lengths, each hosts a hand-lathed marble tealight holder—an "eyeball" reflecting Lord Shiva's inner light and spirit. Winner of the UNESCO Seal of Excellence recognizing its contributions to the local economy and cultural ethos, Trinetra provides income to the local Thathera while keeping their ancient craft in the modern eye of the beholder.
