Kathleen Ramsey, Allied ASID Ddarby, I am not sure where you are referring to. The crown does extend beyond the mantle at the very top on the sides, it also is raised and comes a bit forward into the room. This adds dimension to the fireplace surround. I hope this answers your question.
What is the paint color on the walls? - Also I have a dark green microfiber couch and I can't seem to find any paint colors I like with, do you think this would coordinate? Where did you get the arm chairs? »
Where can I get the fabric for the pillow? - I LOVE that fabric on the pillow and want to find it if possible to use as the jumping off point for the colors and style in my family room. I would GREATLY appreciate your information! It's just perfect! »
Kathleen Ramsey, Allied ASID Thanks so much for asking. The pillow fabric is a fabric from a custom line of upholstered funiture I carry. It is Norwalk fabric. The fabric has wonderful warm colors, gray, browns, rust and a golden yellow. It would be a great jumping off point for creating a space. I would be happy to order a bit for you. Feel free to email me.
tbevard Thank you so much for your kind offer! I plan to take you up on it, and just sent you an e-mail. I'm so excited to be able to have this fabric in my home! Thanks again :)
Kathleen Ramsey, Allied ASID This color is Sherwin Williams Black Fox. I specified a satin sheen on this. It is also an oil based paint. Thanks for asking!
As a fireplace nerd, I'd like to mention that latex paints handle the heat around fireplaces better than oil paints do (oils tend to yellow with time), although I doubt the see-through fireplace above produces a significant amount of heat and I suspect the dark color would be unaffected anyway. Just FYI. : )
Tile or stone around FP face? - The texture of the face with the smooth wood trim surface is really beautiful. What gives the stone or tile the raised effect? »
Kathleen Ramsey, Allied ASID The tile has raised and lowered pieces. This is an emperador dark marble trim piece that I stacked for the textural effect.
A color like Sherwin-Williams' Otter adds warmth in a large room. Small tiles used in the fireplace make the surround pop, and rooms with vaulted ceilings feel cozier.
I like the gray tones used in this tile. The mantel was painted in one of the darker hues, making it a bit more dramatic than if it had been painted lighter. The artwork and accessories are kept simple and neutral.
Painted fireplace w/tile. Paint is Sherwin Williams Black Fox w/a satin sheen. Tile is pieces of emperador dark marble stacked in raised and lowered pieces for textural effect.

Sherwin Williams Morris Room Gray 0037. It is a good back ground gray color, but may be a little cool feeling. I have been specifying SW Functional Gray 7024 quite a bit. It is a warmer brown gray
