Layla- The Lettered Cottage: When I first tricked, I mean talked, my husband into checking out what we now affectionately refer to as the "Lettered Cottage" he was extremely unimpressed. Of course, there's always the option of having partial curtains or blinds over the window itself and full curtains hanging above so that you can moderate your levels of privacy. This is a good choice in homes where the kitchen and dining areas are combined.

If you don't want to completely cover a table with redeeming features (turned legs, in this case), consider using a wide runner, which adds texture, color and interest without obscuring the table beneath.

If your dining room backs right up to your kitchen, you can also use this little trick. Setting a long table perpendicular to the line of cabinetry defines the dining space.
