Open shelving is the perfect place to display a very colorful set of dishes. Here we have every color of the rainbow but the tones are not excessively bold so the colors absolutely work in connection with the rest of the room. Beautiful!

don't like dishes on display, but do like bright colors with wood. Could maybe achieve same effect with tile backsplash. I like the purple countertops and how they look with wood cabinets.
