thank you dean. ideas and concepts are a start, but the real design starts with studying the language of the original house (along with the basic design tools of scale and proportion) to create a good fit. one that looks like it was all built at the same time.
a two car garage is a large structure and you don't want it to overwhelm your house. bad additions almost always try to fit too much under one roof!
one idea is to stagger the garage doors, break up that big box. there's no rule that they must align. or maybe the garage is visually separated from the main house and connected by an enclosed breezeway.
additions to small houses are especially sensitive and require great care.
I typically create several study models to make sure that fit is just right!
