i was looking at the big slab of granite fountain. I can do the same however how do you keep recycling the water. What is used for a catch basin under neath the slab and what size pump is used. This will be perfect for my back yard. »
rainy Odessy dig a hole about 2 feet in diameter larger than granite piece...purchase pond liner....i like using rolled rubber roofing...it will prob last your lifetime used in this manner....reg pond liner may need to be replaced at some point and who wants to move a large piece of granite once its in place??? anyway you will need a support system for the granite inside if the hole.... several large stones that will place the granite slab at ground level would work leave space for your pump to the outside of the stones for access to youg pump incase it ever needs to be replaced...the pump will have tubing so leave some space between the supporting stones for arm room to manuever tubing as necessary.. for any repairswhen needed the tubing will need to be attached to the pump and secured to the hole in the granite ... this is usually done with plumbing fittings... or if the hole in granite is large enough it can simply be inserted thru the hole and sealed up with aquarium silicone.... once you have all of this in place use a grating systen over all of it and cover the grating system with large gravel of your choice large enough not to fall thru the grating system...make sure that you have a piece of grating that cand be removed over the pump location.... then hook the tubing from the pump to the granite...it will take 6-8 healthy men to lower the graniteinto place tho then fill the hole with water top dress any voids with more gravel till it is all ground level and plug the pump in .... you can use a typical extension cord for most pumps you will need a continous run pump and lowes carry a couple of these varieties.... do not use a sump pump but continous run pumps are located where the sump pumps are at my LOWES....just remember in your design to leave a route of access where the rocks can be raked away and the grating can be removed for any repairs... always keep the hole full of water... it evaporates quickly in summer...you can buy stuff in the pond sections of lowes to co
mmatlack I love this fountain. Where did you get the granite? It looks similar to granite mill stones I see online, but they don't have the smooth surface and slightly irregular shape of the one shown here.
LOVE this idea - a giant stone/sculpture with a bubbling fountain - on a hot day you could just lie on it or play on it. We really would like to have a water feature, but we REALLY do not want a fountain or pond.
