When you mount the TV on the wall where do all the components go cable box/game console etc? - We are doing a new construction and I want to mount the TV above the fireplace. I am just trying to figure out where the stuff would go.If it goes behind the wall is it accessible if yes how? »
Harrell Remodeling The wiring is hard wired in the wall, with the cable box and associated electronic hidden in a cabinet with a false back. Another idea is to have a custom "mantle" made that is actually a slim cabinet that houses the electronics and sits above the fireplace or under the television. It's sleek and can be in place of a mantle like you see in the photo above.
Harrell Remodeling The color of the ceiling is actually decorator white - Benjamin Moore. It looks darker due to the blue wall reflecting it's color upwards.
Need this rug!! - I recently remodeled my family room to replicate this one but cannot find the rug!!! Please please help with this info!! Much appreciated!! »
Stacye Hixson Since it is stripes you could always paint a solid brown rug and recreate this look. Check Ikea for a solid rug. Just a thought if you are the DIY type.
Harrell Remodeling This item was owner provided, so we don't know where they obtained it. What we do know is many of their furnishings came from Crate and Barrel Furnishings and were custom made.
what is the name of the blue paint? - this blue color is really nice. i already have the living room painted tan.
and the couches are like the brown shown here. where can i buy this awesome color? »
Harrell Remodeling The owner purchased them prior to the remodel, but look at Crate and Barrel furniture or American Leather - they both have similar choices and a great assortment of fabrics / leathers.
Michael rust This is a very common style any upper end manufacturer will have something very similar. Look at there custome programs and u can make it just the size shape and depth u would like.
Any ideas on how to create this mantle? I have no problem with the tiles but am not sure what the mantle is made out of or how to duplicate this look. »
Generally speaking, a mantel like this has a recess in the back to allow it to be installed over a cleat attached to the wall framing. Like you mentioned, the tiles are easy compared to that.
COASTROAD Hearth & Patio I agree with @bepsf with some additional comments. The answer is Yes. No. Maybe.
Electronic microcomponents don't like it to get over 150 degrees. The area directly over a fireplace, particularly an unvented gas fireplace (worst case scenario), can easily get to 200 degrees or more.
If you look at the warranty information for the television, I think you will find that it says not to install it close to a heat source. So you're out of luck if the TV quits under warranty.
That being said, about 3/4 of the fireplaces we install have TVs over them, and we haven't had a problem in years. If you keep the fireplace a respectable distance away, and especially if you use traditional proportions with a non-combustible surround and mantel, you shouldn't have any issues.
Where you end up getting into a dangerous area is when the TV is dropped as closely as possible to the fireplace, without any surround or mantel in between. I've seen the plastic trim melt right off of the TV in an instance like that. The TV still worked, though, surprisingly.
I love the TV above the fireplace! I'm trying to figure out how to do this in a nice clean finished look like your photo. Where do you have your cable box and dvd player? Don't the wires need to connect to the TV? »
sosbeth Yes, it was expensive but mostly because we rewired for surround sound. We are super happy with it though. We can control out heat/air, lights, and security system while we travel. Plus we don't have to look at or try to hide components within the room.
karen paul interiors You really need to go to a technician as there are so many options now. We no longer have to deal with boxes, wires and everything in the same place. We have been let out of prison, but please do contact a specialist or 2 first.
babelko It looks as if the wall colors were pulled from the colors in the rug. Buy yourself a professional paint deck from your favorite paint manufacturer. It's well worth the investment.
Kerrie L. Kelly I was thinking of the Axis and the Domino Sectionals. The arm style of these are both more tailored than your picture. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/sectional-sofas/1 Are you looking for more of a rolled arm?
slbolton3060 I like the sectional just like it is. I love the arms, the cushions, the round corner, the color, the feet, the fabric...everything. It is exactly what I have been searching for. I looked at all of their sectionals and none of them had rolled arms.
Thanks.
Big fan of the low mantle (so the tv isn't too high) - cant tell if its an illusion in the photo though. anyone know the actual height? also, what is typical height? im used to seeing much higher mantles. »
This is a warm and cozy place to watch a movie with everyone.
To see detailed examples of sectionals and their components, check out this page from Pottery Barn.
How do you use sectionals in your house?
It's no secret that people want to be cozy. This room's large sectional, soft blanket, and roaring fireplace looked to plenty of us like the perfect spot to curl up.
