Cynthia Taylor-Luce Yes, upholstery shops make money on fabric. So do stores. So do designers! Upholstery shops stock a selection of fabric books as a convenience to customers and they handle the orders and fabric returns/replacements when there are flaws. Service comes at a price!

I don't know any upholsterers that sell above retail price, and in fact I know some that sell below retail. They have a margin of profit because they're providing a service.

Do customers really believe they should get wholesale pricing from an upholsterer? I think it's unfair to call a fair retail or a discount off retail an inflated price.

The reason I suggested buying from an upholsterer is that many people have no access to suitable fabrics or they need guidance in their choice. An upholsterer knows fabric content and weaves and wear ratings and understands how some fabrics might be problematic or stretch too much, etc. They use their expertise and make the process easier for a client who really only has to then approve the colour and the appearance of the fabric, rather than the suitability.

zenhome Do you work for an upholstery shop Cynthia, lol?? Thank you for sharing your thoughts on upholsterers. As a designer I am sure you give a lot of business to your local upholstery shops.

Like I said above, I wouldn't hesitate using an upholstery shop to reupholster antiques, heirlooms or special pieces. However, the original question was where to find the above headboard, which in my opinion could be found more economicallly through a retailer.

seabreeze0562 I love, love, love this room. The window covering gives the impression that there is a wall full of windows. This is a great room to wake up to and it is very clean without being fussy. I am trying to duplicate the look but have a hard time finding comparable fabric. I am on a budget. Do you have any suggestion? Also what is the color paint you have on the wall?
