aluo Hi Michael, Thank you very much for your reply. Is it the nature rever rocks for the shower niche?
I am building a new home and have another project will start in spring in Vancouver BC. Is there any chance that you can work on my new project? My email address is amy.luo98@yahoo.ca
glass shelves in the shower niche - Can you tell me what type of glass is used in the shower niche? Usually tempered glass has a green tint but this doesn't. Also, any suggestions on a source for the small size tempered shelves? I am in the Denver CO area. »
Michael Tauber Architecture I suggest you contact a glass shower installer in the Denver area. He can also discuss the glass options with you in greater detail. Tempered does not mean green tint.
Good Luck,
Michael
Grout color and pebble tile - Love the design and is doing our new master bathroom to this mimic this. Some quick questions: What is the grout color? Is it the same with all the tiles? Also, what do you think about using the pebble on the floor instead of the 5/8x5/8 mosaic? Thanks! »
tile next to the shower niche - Please tell me the name of the mosaic tiles next to the shower storage niche and where I can get them. Thanks for your help. »
Michael Tauber Architecture The niche sits within the stud cavity of the wall framing. It is custom in the sense that it was designed to a size and was framed accordingly.
Thank you for the question,
Michael
Michael Tauber Architecture This pebble tile is from Walker Zanger called Zen Grdn Maluku tan item #2ZGAMTA12 and it comes in 12 x 12 netted tiles. Other companies have similar pebble tiles including Porcelanosa.
Thanks for your question,
Michael
Michael Tauber Architecture Many make grab bars. This one was specified as CR Laurence 18" brushed nickel GB18. Brushed nickel is a nicer finish than stainless steel and matched the rest of the plumbing fixtures.
Make sure the material and fasteners will not rust.
Behind the escutcheon plates (the round parts at the wall itself) are plates that allow for attachement into the wall. It is critical that the wall framing behind the grab bar has blocking if it is wood framed or metal blocking/backing if it is metal studs to ensure that there is adequate strength to support someone using the grab bar.
Thanks for the question.
Michael
Michael Tauber Architecture The plumbing fixtures are all in the Dornbracht- Tara series. Finish is platinum matte. The handles are Dornbracht X-tool. This the european type of separate volume and temperature control with a separate valve to allow for the water to come out of the handheld or the shower head.
Thank you for the question.
Michael Tauber
Michael Tauber Architecture Yes they were tempered and they were installed by the tile subcontractor supplied by the glass door/enclosure subcontractor. This designed required the coordination of the tile setter as the glass is held back form the face of the wall tile. Thanks for the question,
Michael Tauber
Michael Tauber Architecture The glass shelves were installed by cutting tile on sides of niche to allow for the glass to slide in and then holding it back from face of wall tile the depth of the wall tile.
Thanks for the question, Michael
Michael Tauber Architecture Floor tile was ann sacks linen 12 x 12 - 5/8" mosaic. Mosaic tiles work better for accomodating slope where there are drains - Also it made a tile between the back wall mosaic tiles and the floor - visually.
Michael Tauber Architecture You are right! It is tile from Ann Sacks - Linen - Mosaic 5/8" and 12 x 12 tiles.
Thanks for asking, Michael, The architect! Pebbles by walker zanger in niche - zen garden maluku.

Ronique Gibson From this picture it is hard to say the length. You can see the large tiles on the left and right are probably 12"x12" tiles.. so it's at least 3' to 4' deep.
The back shower wall you can eyeball how big a 12"x12" tile would fit, approx. 4 across. So I would say by this picture it is 4'-4'6" wide.
Michael Tauber Architecture The answer is 3' x 5' was a former bathtub location. Thank you for the question - Michael Tauber the architect of the project.
Best,
Michael
In the shower photo with the small stoned alcove, can you tell me the height of the seat? Is it 2 x 12" at 24" or is it 16"?
I can see the depth appears to be 12". Is that correct? »
Paul Anater Work like this is always custom and that height would vary between 18" and 20" above the floor, depending on who's using the seat. There aren't any rules other than what works for whoever's going to use the shower seat.
If you put shelves in your niche, then you can go the extreme vertically instead of horizontally. This is a little more affordable option when it comes to the work of constructing the wall.
Top picks: note the niche here is vertical - article says this is cheaper. i like the large tiles on the side with smaller tiles on one wall (these might be too small though
