When the owners of this two-story cottage first contacted Schrader & Companies, they planned on renovating their 1970's home. They loved the location, but the house needed work. As they talked through the design, however, it soon became apparent that it wouldn't cost much more to tear down the home and build new. "The homeowners loved that idea," says Andy Schrader.

Their new 4,500-square-foot house quickly took shape on the beautiful lot in a well-developed Minnetonka neighborhood. The homes shingle and stone exterior infused with painstaking details. Thanks to Schrader interior designer Miranda Brouwer those include: art niches, faus-painted walls and ceilings, and furniture-style built-ins in the kitchen, casual dining area, and great room. At the home's heart is the kitchen, open to the formal and informal dining spaces, walk-in pantry, and the hearth and great rooms.

The upper-level owners bedroom boasts an enormous alder-lined study, with window seat and dual desks. Th two tween girls each have a charming bedroom, and their shared bath sports penny tile and a glass backsplash.

Downstairs, more special features abound: A music room, and open theater, and walk-in wine cellar ensure everyone in the family has a space dedicated to their passions. Especially the two girls: As both are dancers and like to perform for the family, they will now pirouette on the stage with directional lighting.
