This is small scale, but cubes would be similar to this in that they would have a little lip on front to keep contents from falling out. Removable lip would be great to increase option of either totes or just piling things in.

Old hotels and Bed & Breakfasts used to have this sort of cubbies mounted on the wall behind the front desk. With a hook for the room key, and a cubby for mail and odds and ends, it can translate back to said use, or be used for things like craft projects. Especially approaching the holidays, being able to keep handmade gifts in check and an eye on their progress would be great.
