Eggleston Farkas Architects If you really are considering doing it yourself, there are engineering issues involved. The beams and connections need to be designed to deal with the weight being carried, as well as any shear forces (wind & earthquake - depending on where you live). The roof panels are also subject to uplift from the wind. You'd be surprised by how much harm these things can do.

The shade it provides and the fan is a great idea, I don't like being able to see through the kitchen unless its really rural area where no one else lives; I enjoy cooking in very minimal clothing.....lol
