"This is my style...the frames on the wall are very pretty, not so busy. And it looks so calming, like, you really want to be in this space, even if you're paying bills." (babygirl01)
"these cubbies offer function in a busy home. I'm thinking opposite the mud room, just off the back entry." (jasa)
The tatters of this room lie on its surface. With clean architecture and color and design to start from, this work space can add layer upon layer. Formal frames mix with a collage simply stuck directly to the wall, though staying to its restricted area to keep the room from total chaos. There is organization, there is order, but there is personality.
A popular photo on houzz, and one I have personally adored for years. The unusual blend of intimacy and imperfection, and pleasant order makes this an unusual room. The all-white work surface and shelves and the cappuccino color throughout provide a simple background. The frames are eclectic yet are all of the same dark finish. And the chaotic collage is kept to the small wall area to the left. One is immediately comforted by the lived-in feel and the visual understanding that the clutter is kept in check.
Buying coordinated organizing accessories will help keep things looking professional. IKEA, The Container Store, and West Elm have great file boxes, magazine files, baskets, etc.
English manors were fabulous about mixing the centuries-old formal art and housewares with personal touches placed onto walls in private quarters--as in this study.
Isn't it nice to think of being able to look out a window to a beautiful scene while working? Here shelving cubes on the wall provide accessible storage as does the cabinet below. The walls are covered with inspirational objects and I'm intrigued with the light fixture, which appears to be hung off-center in the room...I like that.
Built-in open cupboards for storage in office after closet is removed. Also like the light fixture and cork board for pics and trinkets. Also the desk to ceiling decor.
Maybe we consider a built-in solution. Maybe we could take the first plate glass window and include that in the bulit in space. We could have slide out doors and good spaces for printers and scanners. the right dimensions to make it work. Even built in filing cabinets.
