I saw this idea in an issue of Better Homes and Gardens in early 2008. My mother-in-law asked if I could paint her house numbers on her door and I decided to add them to mine as well. I love how it turned out!
Door Numbers - Did you hand-paint or are those vinyl applied numbers? If vinyl, where did you order? If not, you have a very steady hand! Thanks, Ron »

Do you want people to be able to see that your house is yours as soon as they pass by it? Putting your number on the front door is the best way to do that. Choose an interesting font against a boldly-colored door and you've got a front entrance that really says something.
And finally, sometimes a door can become the signature of the home and its owner. When I saw this image of the warm red door, with its unique number detailing, I immediately recognized it to be Karla's door of 'It's the little things that make a house a home'. She is certainly right...
Are they easy to see from the street? This isn't just a consideration for dinner party guests — first responders need to be able to spot the numbers right away in an emergency. Some cities even have codes that dictate how large numbers must be; check whether this is the case where you live.Step outside and study your house from the street to check how well the numbers show up. Is the font clear and readable? Do you need a bigger size or more visual weight? If your home is set back from the curb, numbers on a mailbox or post close to the road will probably work better than numbers hung above the door.
Stencil or glue numbers on the front door. Not happy with your blah old house numbers? Try painting them on with number stencils or order a custom decal — search for "door number decal" on Etsy to find lots of options.
