Sidney Addition & Renovation

An addition & complete renovation in Sidney BC just north of Victoria BC. The clients added about 800 square feet of living space on 2 floors to their 1972 home, including a new legal suite on the ground floor. We also did a complete tear-out of the rest of the house with a completely new electrical system, smart wiring, all new plumbing, windows & doors, upgraded insulation and a new exterior stucco finish. This kitchen is a shaker-style vertical grain Douglas Fir. ©joshmcculloch.com

Thanks for the question (and kind words)! This was a custom stain blend done at our local finisher's shop. I do not recall the brand of stain they used, but it was mixed to match Sikkens 078 (aka Natural) finish colour which this client had on their living room Fir mantel only a short distance from this kitchen. In our experience, Douglas Fir almost always looks best with either just a clear finish or a light warm-toned stain. Keep in mind that Fir darkens as it ages and is exposed to light, so what you see when the kitchen is newly installed and how it will look in 6 months will be quite different!
