I can't be distracted by worrying what consumers might think they need. Many of the structures we now consider national treasures were received poorly at the time of their completion. Sometimes you get lucky enough to create something that is artistically vital, progressive, and critically well-regarded, but possesses something familiar enough to achieve a broad appeal. The greatest work is the result of an undeviating focus and vision. So, I'll continue to work toward some elusive ideal, and hope that I'm lucky enough to strike upon something that is broadly compelling.
