southernquill I'd speculate it's a crochet blanket they're repurposing as a rug... Don't quote me on that though, lol! However I do know that you can find those very easily at most thrift stores for a few bucks ($2-$10). Purchase a nonslip material at a fabric store and sew it onto the crochet rug or double sided velcro could work for minimal effort and maximum style ;)
Mismatch your throw pillows. Sometimes, it's just more fun to mix things up, and wouldn't you like to have more fun this year? Then, say goodbye to those matchy-matchy pillows and bring in a bunch of new ones in varying colors and sizes.
Another cozy version of midcentury. Instead of sterile and serious, this room feels fun and lighthearted. See more midcentury and modern decorating guides
A patchwork of knit squares stitched into a rug adds an appealing layer of warmth underfoot. Again, you could easily do this with worn-out sweaters — even with some picked up from a thrift store.

I love those bird-shaped pillows, and that patchwork rug - lovely! I'm wondering if I can DIY that rug with remnants of wool sweaters from the thrift store...?
