Finishing Touches Each job is a little different, so I sometimes I play with different techniques to see what gets the best results. i am not sure what I did on this job. Play with it and see what you like.
Denise Van_Hise I have a transom on top of my window but I cover it because of the amount of light we get in that room. Overall, I think the window with the transom is 69". Is there a rule of thumb for valances?
Thank you!
Finishing Touches Yes, the rule is that you want 1/5 of the height of the floor to top of valence for a window treatment depth. That being said, the rules can always be broken. I would take some craft paper , cut it to the dimensions you are thinking and stick it to the wall to see if YOU are happy with the dimensions.
Very pretty! Is the shade behind the valance a bamboo shade? - And what are the straps made of? They look the same as the shades. I love the pattern of the fabric. The colors in it coordinate so well with everything in the room. »
Finishing Touches It is a relaxed mock shade. The valence is stationary. It is a rectangle piece of fabric with 1.5" returns on side. The bottom is folded like an accordion and tacked behind the straps and on the returns to hold the pleats in place. The valence is mounted on a 1 x 2 wood board. I hope this helps.
Finishing Touches Where do you live? I live in Denver, CO. This is a custom window treatment I fabricated. There is no pattern for this, but it is not a complex treatment. If you are not close to Denver, I can recommend one of my fellow workroom's to help you with this treatment, just let me know.
The printed valance shows another way this style can work. This is the easiest window treatment to make and the least expensive. It however provides no privacy and therefore if that is needed and this valance is used, you will also need something else such as a shade or blinds. This is basically a straight lined panel, probably about 1/2 the length of the window, and goes across the width of the window and then pulled up by a contrasting fabric. It also has a shade under it for privacy but that is not what I'm highlighting. It can be put inside the window casing or over it.
