I absolutely love the idea of an old card catalog as wine storage unit.

I have to share my favorite storage idea right off the bat. Is this not ingenious??? It must be the old librarian in me. Remember the days before the internet...if you wanted to find the answer to something, you had to get in your car, drive down to the library and look up the information in a book. But before you could find the book, you usually had to consult the "card catalog." The cards were always filed according to title, author or subject. Well, in this card catalog, the subject is always, WINE. What a wonderful new use for all those now obsolete card catalogs. I love that the drawers could even be labeled with the names and dates of the wine stored inside.

You may remember seeing this photo in a previous Ideabook I put together about storing wine. I miss the old card catalogs...opening those long narrow drawers and thumbing through them in anticipation of finding just the book you needed. Thank goodness this piece wasn't discarded; instead, it has been employed in a delightfully new purpose for storing wine.

While I like the idea of being able to see the bottles and different labels, I find this to be a very unique and creative idea. The brand and type of wine can be put on the outside of the drawers. Helps to keep any space organized and remain uncluttered.

This is both quirky and very practical. Look at all that space for labelling and I could even drop some tasting notes in the draw if I felt like it. Only tricky part how to keep the temprature constant.
