Cathy Schwabe Architecture I posted a response to this question some months ago - so here it is pasted in again -- the shade cloth is Sunbrella fabric -- with the exception of the Starbucks green, the lighter colors and more open weaves last longer. The cloth is hung on stainless steel removable cables - all the hardware isfrom Feeney Wire Rope -- great company, beautiful products, long lasting. The sections were sized to make it possible for one person, about my height ( 5' - 4") to draw them with batons -- one on each side which get hooked and or remain hanging from grommets. The awning was made ( sewn) by Synthia Petroka who also consulted on the layout, pull direction, spacing of the cables. She is a sailor and sailcloth/awning.. fabricator -- great to work with and I recommend her highly. She brings fabric samples -- does the sewing and installation. The awning and cables are suspended from a steel frame -- C sections and square tubes welded together and bolted to the house walls and post based set below the decking. The awning can port in both directions when not stretched out. Synthia is a great resource. -- Best, Cathy

Where did you get the lounge chairs? Love them - I am at the final stages of my roof deck in Philly and would love to find a chair like this...any insight? THanks TK »
Planters, etc. - I love the metal planters around the deck area. Who made them and how are they attached?
It's a little mini sanctuary. Great use of a small space ...a lot of use of the verticle. »
Cathy Schwabe Architecture Hi-
the planters are actually not metal -- although I agree that they do like they are. They are fiber reinforced plastic -- I need to get more information from the landscape architect -- Vera Gates from Arterra ( they are also on Houzz) and will get back to you to let you know where we got them from -- and any other information that she has.
They are largely weight bearing -- they sit somewhat below the level of the decking which acts as a restraint. If you want to contact me off line -- use cschwabe@earthlink.net I would be happy to scan the details and send them to you.
Thanks for the compliments -- I agree this is a lovely space and has very much the feeling of a sanctuary that the clients wanted. Collaborating with Vera on this was a real joy -- she is a gifted designer and I found the experience really inspiring.
More soon --
Cathy
Cathy Schwabe Architecture Hi Michelle -
I just heard back from Vera Gates about the planters.
The manufacture is a company called Tournesol.
They are fiberglass. She is not sure how they apply the color but thinks its just sprayed on. Both/ std sizes and also custom sizes are available.
Here is the link for more information:

Beth's Home Deseyen, Inc. Cathy thank you so much, that's so very helpful and looks like something I'm going to get. Do you have any idea the ball park on pricing? Just trying to provide a client a ballpark?
Cathy Schwabe Architecture Hi Beth - The best idea is to contact Duravit directly -- you will likely have a local rep. And or google Duravit Sundeck tub -- brings up pricing -- not cheap.
They are really nice though.
Cathy
It's important to note that the fabric will determine the quality of light for the exterior space. A white and gauzy type fabric will create an ethereal light.
1. Create an outdoor retreat. Outdoor living spaces are all the rage, so make good use of your backyard by creating your own day spa. Pair a one-person tub like this one from Duravit with chaise longues and a contemporary awning for a much-needed escape from real life.
