What type of door is in the shower to the outside? - Love the indoor/outdoor bathroom. I'm remodeling my house and doing that. Can you give me the door specs? What kind of door is in the shower leading to the outside and if there is anything special you had to do? My builder was worried about rust or longevity of a door to outside that would be constantly getting wet. »
Cathy Schwabe Architecture Hi -
The door to the exterior is a glass frameless door with very little hardware all of which is either stainless steel or brushed nickel. The door itself was fabricated by the same company who did all of the shower glass and I believe that they installed it with the hardware. Schicker Luxury Shower Doors, Inc 925.676.5040. Door handles by CR Laurence. The jambs, head and sill are stone and were detailed much the way one would any exterior door vis a vis waterproofing/interface with siding. Stone and waterproofing were installed by that sub.
The water proofing assembly is something to be very careful and conservative with - less because of water going in and or out of shower and more because all openings in a shower ( and this is a steam shower so more involved) need to carefully protect the house frame. We used a concealed closer at the head and a exposed pivot patch at the top and bottom. A lock patch and the handle on each side is the balance of the hardware. I would advise talking to Schicker about this and having them do the work if you are local to them or get their thoughts.
I hope this is enough to get you started --

Cathy Schwabe Architecture Hi -
The manufacturer is Blomberg ( Sacramento, CA). The windows are aluminum frames. The technical department is incredibly helpful and will assist you in combining their extrusions in pretty much any combination/design you can think of. They also have several part width options which I like taking advantage of. I have always loved working with this company. The units in this image are fixed glass with an inswinging hopper unit where you can see that the unit operates. I recommend them highly.
