GameRoomSupplyWorld.com ocpooltableking is right in pointing out the standard being around 58", as that is the normal length of a cue stick.
It's important to remember cue stick length when choosing an area for your pool table :) Don't want to be scrunched up against the wall when you're taking that corner pocket shot!
lennythelizard I would use at least 1 pool stick length between the table and wall. Also keep in mind anything you are going to hang on the wall (stick rack, pictures, etc.) Add more room for those items or you will be hitting them when trying to take a shot against the rail.
The coffered ceiling, large fireplace and warm neutral tones make me think of some exclusive men's club where you're still allowed to smoke stogies indoors.
Billiards is a classic game that you might play in the lobby of a lodge. Set up a warm lodge-like space in your home with seating around a fireplace in one half of the room and the pool table in the other.
