Tres McKinney Design The run of cabinets on the long wall and the kitchen side of the island have a painted green decorative finish. The china cabinet, cabinet tower and the dining room side of the island is off white. Note how the end of the island wraps around and is painted white. This kitchen is open to a great room (dining area and living room). All the mill work in the great room is painted the off white. We devised this transition to allow for the more decorative green cabinets in the kitchen. If you look at the Nob Hill High rise project on my Houzz site you will see other views that show the kitchen as viewed from the dining area and living room.
Tres McKinney Design The floor is walnut hardwood flooring, hand scraped and stained to this mellow tone. It is set in a herringbone pattern. The company that made and installed it is Amber Floors. They are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. If you are not located here you can find a local company that could provide a similar installation.
Tres McKinney Design The knobs are by Top Knobs. They are from the "Normandy Collection" and the style is M629 (PAB) Patina Black. They are also available in a Pewter or Patina Rouge (brown/rust color).
Tres McKinney Design My offices are in San Francisco but we might be able to work with a Chicago or national cabinet maker to achieve a similar design. Please call to discuss further.
Tres McKinney Design The shade I designed for this project is an embroidered fabric from the Schumacher's Williamsburg reserve collection pattern # 3276011 "Sunflower on Parchment". The tape trims are from Samual & Sons passementerie. The border tape is #977-38453, color #12 1 5/8" Elysee ribbed border, color meadow,
the tassel fringe trim is #985-38414, color#12 Elysee scalloped tassel fringe, color meadow. The shade is a custom made, inner lined flat roman shade fabricated by Deborah Shafer 415 453 0995.
Tres McKinney Design In real life the cabinets are green custom finish but this website image makes them look more yellow. The cabinets were hand painted by decorative artist Peggy del Rosario. www.peggydelrosario.com Peggy also painted the powder room vanity, guest room vanity master bedroom chest of drawers and the folding screen in this project's living room " the Nob Hill" project on my website. She also did the decorative finishes on the kitchen cabinets, living room fireplace and family room woodwork on the Pacific Heights project on my web site. She is an incredibly talented artist and we collaborate on most of my projects.
Tres McKinney Design The glass doors are hand made leaded glass. We took the gothic arch inspiration from the nearby Grace Cathedral. The 4 sided glass tower cabinet was designed to house the client's Imari collection. The China cabinet on the back wall holds glass ware, china and silver trays. The kitchen was originally a long narrow seperate room. We opened it up to the dining and great room so it is now flooded with light and more like a traditional style loft living great room. The glass doors add even more light and airiness to the space and compliment the painted finished cabinets.

Tres McKinney Design Corian has a very manufactured look in a traditionally styled kitchen. It can look great in a very sleek contemporary styled kitchen. Natural stone counters impart an old world charm because of the character of the stone. The limestone in this kitchen had subtle veining and fossilization. Yes limestone can stain like marble but I think it further adds interest. If it is honed and sealed there is less of a possibility of staining. That said - if staining is an issue choose a granite with alot of movement to visually minimize any staining and stick with a honed or leather finish whkch gives the surface a more antiqued look.
marthasiny Have you seen any quartz that might be used in lieu of this type of limestone pattern/color? Some quartz looks very manufactured like corian, but I have seen some recently that could pass for marble but w/o the staining issues.
While distressed cabinets have a look all their own to begin with, pulls help define the style. A sleek bar pull adds a modern element, a dark pull creates contrast and a similarly distressed knob blends in, allowing the detail in the cabinets to shine.
you could have something like the far back next to the window on the other side of your refrigerator, which is probably two pieces (2 cabinets) and a different style than what you would probably want.
