What is the depth of the 2 steps to sunken BBQ/bar? What are the 2 counter heights? - We are doing a swim up bar and sunken BBQ area like this and our dimensions seem off. How far down do we need to step down? Is it necessary to do counter heights? My husband the griller is 6'4. »
Wow... it states your question is 8 weeks old! I just got the message today, so I hope you did not have to wait 8 weeks. If so, I am sorry for the delay.
First, the goal in this project and other Swim-up Bar's I have designed is to accomplish the following"
a) Blend the traditional Cook Center & Bar seating / eating with that of a Swim-up Bar (in many types of swim up bar designs this is not accomplished or perhaps desired)
b) Because of the two six in high steps (12" down) going down behind the counter, this does have a nice effect by lowering all of the counters (therefore the entire cook center feature) by 12 inches overall. In view Lots, this can make a big difference.
c) Because of this, the 'outside' Bar counter is in a similar height of most tables, so this allows for traditional table seats to be used at the bar counter. This can help make seating adjustments easy (from table to bar etc),
Here are the following dimensions that make up a Swim-up Bar like this one.
steps: 6" each (2 steps down = 12")
swim-up bar counter: +6" overall, therefore that counter is 18" above floor of bbq (which works great as a seat-wall for those cooking)
BBQ Counter: 36"-38" in height (from interior), with 38" height typical if refrigerator is used
Bar Counter: 6" above BBQ Counter
With your husband being that tall, you can feel free to raise the BBQ counter a few inches taller. The only aspect to be aware of... is to make sure to NOT have that outside bar counter get too high. This height of comfort is entirely based upon you (your height, the height of the chairs to be used, and general comfort). Typically that outside bar counter is 30" to 32" (again the outside dimension, where the chairs are shown in this image), so I think you could be safe if you keep that counter up to 34" or maybe 36" max.
AMS Landscape Design Studios, Inc. This stone is called 'Shenandoah' and it is from Cougar Stone. It is laid in a 'square and rectangle' pattern (www.cougarstone.com)
It is a thick and heavy stone and quite durable.
The price is around $6 - $7 per sq. ft., approximately.
This covered outdoor cooking area and bar, complete with media equipment and a swimming pool, is an entertainers dream. The space states, with no apologies, that a fun party will be happening here tonight!
