What type of trees/shrubs are these? - I'm looking for a tall hedge in a shady area like this. What type of plant is on the left? Is it fast-growing? I live in northern Alabama and have pine as well as deciduous trees all over the yard.I need a heavy screen of shrubs/trees on one side of my yard. Thanks! »
Romani Landscape Architecture Hello amylomoore - the Evergreens on the left are Thuja occidentalis 'Pyramidalis' otherwise known as Pyramidal Arborvitae. In some regions its also called Pyramidal Cedar. They are relatively fast growing and very dense. Pyramidal Arborvitaes can be purchased in a range of heights from about 4 to 20 feet tall at nurseries or growers. These were purchased at 14 feet tall. They also stay relatively narrow at about 4 feet wide.
Note the pyramid cedars on the left, can be purchased 6-14' tall and only grow to about 4' wide, great idea to block out the neighbours view on the right side of the back yard.
