The Beginning: A new home with Builder-grade paint and finishes that lacked a sense of warmth and the feeling of "home."
The Concept: Begin in the foyer and use color, texture and pattern to connect all the first floor spaces. Add interior architectural details to create more of a custom-home look. New furnishings combine the client's updated-traditional style, comfort, and well-crafted details in the accent pieces.

The tv seems too high-what is the correct placement? »
Meredith Ericksen This is a good question. When I was working with this client they really wanted to put the TV over the fireplace...I discussed with them that it was going to be mounted higher than I would recommend and asked them to think about it...plus I am not a fan of putting the TV above the fireplace. But they wanted to move forward with putting it above the fireplace. Ideally, the middle of your TV screen needs to be at about eye level while you're seated. However, like this client, lots of folks find that mounting their TV that way looks too low, and move the TV up so that the middle of the screen is around standing eye level. If you do decide on a higher mount, adjusting your seating placement....so you are farther away from the TV. This client usually reclines to watch TV or sits in the chair that is farther away from the TV.
hilltop1155 Your eye, when seated, should fall comfortably between the middle and bottom edge of the TV screen. If you must tilt your head backward to watch TV from any seating position, I think the TV is too high. In the end (as with tuscanbluedesign's client) it's a personal decision, but I believe this is a reasonable guideline.
