What was the intent of extending the ceiling wallpaper onto the wall? - I am restoring an 1850 gothic revival. When stripping off the many years of wall paper, we found exactly the same practice, when the ceiling pattern was extended down onto about 2 feet of the wall all the wall around the room. Was this an attempt to make the ceiling look lower or just a decorative idea. Thanks for your time. »

Manon Floreat Given the age of the property, it was probably a combination of both. The Victorian era was really big on layers of decor and ornamentation (as you probably know) and bringing the darker wallpaper down to the wall, visually lowered the ceiling height and also provided an opportunity for additional ornamentation.

wrcsargent i see small collections of cabinet doors made into a folding screens and hardware for the tracks, as a diy. this opened up ideas for myself! love the look!
