No inlay. The same floor was simply stained to achieve and inlay look. This is the least expensive option for you, keeping your current floor but changing the color. I am not suggesting the checker board pattern, obviously.

M: I would be very surprised if there was no floor. Very surprised. To keep costs down, we would sand down the floor, stain a very dark border and then stain the kitchen floor a lighter color, but darker than the current floor.
