would like to have butcher block countertops, already have a new sink which can be undermounted or top mounted - is this a bad idea...where as wood and water aren't compatible? I notice in this picture...there is a piece of stainless steel next to sink... »
Like a proper restaurant kitchen, everything is within arm's reach. Knives, pots, salad bowls, etc. There's something pristine about rows of kitchen supplies when they're at home on a wall rail system rather than sprawled on a countertop or stuffed in drawers and on shelves.
The biggest renovation challenge you facedOur biggest challenge was the kitchen, there was no way it could be madeover, it was probably a health hazard and by this stage unforseen things had eaten into our budget and we could not afford a kitchen company to fit our kitchen for us. So we had to very quickly re-evaluate and find a more budget-friendly solution, so we looked to IKEA for help. We pulled out the old kitchen, re-lined the walls and fitted an 'un-fitted' kitchen from IKEA with open shelving and units on wheels we thought this would fit in with the laid-back theme and we knew that we could add further units as time went on.
The mixing bowls here take more of a backseat to the overall look of the kitchen. Again, notice that the chrome shelf matches the items displayed. Can you guess what category I'm going to next suggest to put on view? You're right if you guessed knives. A simple magnetic strip is all you need to free up more drawer space in a cramped kitchen.
Love this work space - knives, ikea shelving racks; steel counter top around sink; its a tight but well utilized small work space. It's missing the farm style sink though
