This front door in the Chelsea neighborhood of London was photographed by my friend Meg. I can't stop looking at it. In the middle of a lot of gray, it feels so inviting.
Yellow is a color that evokes mental clarity, perception, understanding, wisdom, confidence, curiosity, humor and merriment. Wow, I'd like some of that coming into my home...wouldn't you?
There's no way I could write an ideabook about doors without including this yellow door - it's one of my favorites. It's also a good reminder that sometimes, all you need is a great coat of paint to give something a facelift.

The color is bold, not my color, but it makes a statement. I think that painting the molding a contrasting color just point out the lack of architectural detail around the doorway. Although I think it smart to contrast the molding in many situations.

As soon as I saw this yellow door (on another blog, months ago), I kind of freaked out. I don't do much decorating at home with yellow, but I do wear a lot of yellow accessories (I have 5 pairs of yellow shoes, or something ridiculous like that). In my mind, painting a door is just like wearing a pair of shoes - the icing on the cake - and this color is perfect icing.
