I would recommend at least two coats, w/a coated primer. The hardware stores like Lowes now have lines Valser which now are higher quality, stronger pigments and low to no VOC,
To chose the right Chocolate Brown wall color, buy a few samples in a range of medium to dark brown colors. You can paint the samples directly wall (for dark colors two heavy coats will give you best true look) or paint them onto white art boards (from local office store or art supply store).
Also, paint a glossy true white along trim. (remember not all white a the same) Here we chose "true white" (not very creamy at all nor too grey)
Hold up painted art boards along trim, so not to let current color distract (is white less of a concern). Or paint samples next to/along trim, good 4'x4' area to truly, stand back a good 8"+ and then you can best judge is the color choice/s right.
If you feel your having getting that right color (trust me many designer will confess to color never being a simple part of our job) don't waste any more of your time or money. Call a "local" design professional for a color consultation.
OK, I gave you more then ask for, but color and paint can be tricky. I would hate to have you try what you see here with out extra tips.....
All the best,
Caroline

The Effect Frame: Bright White TrimA bright white trim makes wall colors look crisp and clean. It looks especially good with dark colors and helps keep a room with dark paint bright.
