Chicago Green Design Inc. Hello Brian and thanks for looking at some of our projects. We love designing/installing Rooftop retreats... its what we do!!....
To answer your question... Wausau has many different types of pavers. This particular paver is one of the most inexpensive of them all that they offer. This is called their Sand Series Paver and is a concrete molded poured cast and weighs in at about 70 to 80 lbs a tile (2x2). So that comes to about 20lbs a quare ft. Make sure your roof can support such a bulky paver. For pricing this paver is one of the most inexpensive on the market. a little over $4.00 a square ft, thats very cheep.... but keep in mind they are made to order. So lead time could be an issue, and they are out of Wisconsin so if you need them to get to your place... there will be a shipping charge and of course that will bump up the final square footage price.
Next is how are you mounting the paver? When considering mounting a paver there are many ways to do this. If you are using the paver as a ballast paver.....Then nothing will be required for support. but if you are looking to put these on a pedestal system ....,well then you will have many options and once again will have to consider that price per quare ft to increase as well. If you are installing Wausau Pavers then in order not to void the manufactures warranty, you will need to use (YOU GOT IT) Wausau pedestals. Just what they do.... there are many pedestal systems out there. some more in price, some less, But all are designed to provide you a level deck, which is what you see here in this picture.
Last but not least the labor to haul and install the pavers to its final destination. So now that $4.00 per square ft is looking more like four to five times that amount.
Pros and cons of the Wausau Sand Series...
pros.... Less expensive
cons.... Heavy, staining of tile if not sealed annually, lead time, not to void warranty need to use their pedestals,
Wausau does have many different lines of tiles and some are very inovative and unique to the industry.

Chicago Green Design Inc. Hello Carylon,
The floor on this project are called Wausau tiles. This particular flooring is called the sand series. They are on a pedestal system and have a little weight to them. Each piece weighs in at about 80 Lbs. But that transfers to 20 lbs per square ft. which is not that bad. CGD uses many different surfaces and Wausau Sand series is an economical way to have a nice flooring for a pedestal application.
hughr you could fab exterior cabinets with Trespa panel or equivelant. very stable and good color range. reasonable to work with but costly to the extent that you would want to be clear on your production plan. we have used it on elivator cab interiors with good success in terms of machining.
A grill and minifridge prevent the hassle of going back and forth from your kitchen indoors, making it much easier to dine on the rooftop. I wouldn’t mind flipping burgers with this view on a lovely summer evening.
Everything about this rooftop shouts summer. From the lounge chairs that face breathtaking city views, to the sunny chartreuse color of the planters and cabinets to the minifridge and grill pair — this is the spot to sip a cold beer while the host flips burgers.
Swap your charcoal for propane or gas. Charcoal-fired grills give off substances that contribute to poor air quality, so try using a propane or gas-fueled model instead. I know some die-hard charcoal fans won't want to give up that characteristic smoky flavor, but gas grills can't be beat in terms of convenience.
Previous examples looked outside from inside, but the last few step onto terraces to take in views that are even more expansive. This rooftop deck just west of the bend of the Chicago River has a great view of the curving 333 Wacker Drive and other Loop buildings to the south.
This is a very clean and simple design. Question: Are you wanting a bar sink or a larger one that you can actually wash something in? (Is the sink for making drinks or making dinner?) Also, they make mini fridges with icemakers if that is something you would like.
another grill with a void beyond it. I like the addition of the planters, the glass back to the counter top. The plain yellow facing is a little too plain
