My house was built in 1976. The kitchen has overhead cabinets over the counter. You see the back from the dining area. Looks like stained plywood. Blah! Also If I have a lot of stained trim and cabinets in the kitchen and dining area can I paint the cabinets and leave the stained trim? »
Gail I think this is a beautiful kitchen and very craftsmen. If it were mine I would replace the center panel of the upper cabinet doors with glass. Where is the diningroom, could we see the room from that direction since that seems to be the offending angle. I would not paint the cabinets, but I like tons and tons of natural wood.
Thank you so much for your question and I am glad to help you out. What you are referring to is called a duo tone finish and that is extremely outdated. It will cause the eye to go to the unpainted trim. My professional suggestion is to just paint everything. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any more inquiries. Have a great day!
Thank you for your question and I would be more than glad to assist you. The cabinets are of cherry wood. I do not recall the stain, as this project is several years finished. Please refer to this project or photo and contact Kitchen Choreography in Traverse City, MI at (231) 932-9700 and they will be able to further assist you. Have a great day and please feel free to ask any more questions.
The shelf wall could go to the top of the window.
The shelf could disappear at the base of the window, extending the counter top back 6 inches.
The upper cabinets would have the look of only being 6" deep, but would extend back into the shelf wall to the exterior wall, being 12" deep then.
The cabinets were custom designed by me and fabricated by a company called Kitchen Choreography out of Traverse City Michigan.
Have a great day!
