how do you keep your white shingles from turning yellowish? - I have a white cedar shingle house that keeps on turning yellow in different places and it look dirty and old.
It has only been a month since the shingles have been put up!
They were painted three coats of Sherwin William basic white.
Do you have a suggestion? »
Because it was a Sherwin Williams coating that is yellowing, it would be hard for us to diagnose exactly what happened. However, there have been cases when tannins from bleeding woods such as cedar would bleed through the topcoat and cause it to yellow. The solution for this would be to seal the entire surface with an oil-based primer such as our Kilz Complete, and then apply a topcoat of your choosing. This should seal in the tannins and keep the topcoat from yellowing. But, for more detailed, precise assistance with the Sherwin Williams topcoat, we would recommend contacting Sherwin Williams.
Kelly Splitt We are considering replicating this beautiful house's colors on the house we are building right now. We are using LP Smartside. What color is the siding and shingles on this (color code, manufacturere, etc. to match)? We are going with Eagle windows (black aluminum). Thanks.
charlottegirl Try Lantern & Scroll www.lanternandscroll.com I was there a few weeks ago and they had very similar ones. Reasonably priced too! Maybe $350. Hope that helps. Cheers!
Does the top step (platform) extend a little beyond the front of the garage? - I have a similar entrance where the garage is next to the walkway and stoop and extends forward of the house. I am trying to figure out if the top step should extended beyond the garage. I like the idea of the plant hiding the side of the step by the garage. Thank you. »
First things first: Before you get excited about moving your street-side box to the front porch, make sure you contact the U.S. Postal Service. You may be able to move at will, but your mailbox needs permission.
