Traditional southwestern style like this always makes a cowgirl think about her favorite ranch. The simplicity here is appealing to a girl who likes to be out on the range. Personally, I'd probably add a hat and lasso on the wall as additional decoration but I can appreciate the starkness here.

Overall, Navajo-style blankets and rugs are the most popular items made and sold by the Navajo People. If you're a modernist and/or minimalist, a great way to achieve the less-is-more Navajo look is by keeping a neutral, textural backdrop and playing with materials architecturally. This incorporates elements of the style without being in-your-face and it highlights one-of-a-kind, Navajo pieces such as tapestries or longhorns. (Now that I wrote about them, I kinda want longhorns in my house.) One of the most common Navajo patterns of the 20th century is the "Eyedazzler," consisting of small, serrated diamonds which appear to form rows of bigger serrated diamonds — all boasting contrasting outlines.

9. Western style. Okay, I admit that Western style is not for everybody. But, this version of a handrail has an immediate appeal beyond what I would expect. The fabric provides warmth, pattern and color to the otherwise cool tones of this staircase. Throw in a steer skull and horns for instant Western style.
