ron1118 Whether it strikes the right balance is subjective. It suits our room and house, and receives compliments whenever anyone sees it for the first time. I will say the quality is a bit disappointing, it stains very easily. Make sure you clean up spills right away and that you only clean it with non abrasive cleaners and cloths. Someone spilled wine at our first dinner party and it soaked through the placemat. I didn't notice until the morning and it caused a discoloration in the wood that still mocks me.
