This contemporary renovation makes no concession towards differentiating the old from the new. Rather than razing the entire residence an effort was made to conserve what elements could be worked with and added space where an expanded program required it. Clad with cedar, the addition contains a master suite on the first floor and two children’s rooms and playroom on the second floor. A small vegetated roof is located adjacent to the stairwell and is visible from the upper landing. Interiors throughout the house, both in new construction and in the existing renovation, were handled with great care to ensure an experience that is cohesive. Partition walls that once differentiated living, dining, and kitchen spaces, were removed and ceiling vaults expressed. A new kitchen island both defines and complements this singular space.
The parti is a modern addition to a suburban midcentury ranch house. Hence, the name “Modern with Ranch.”

I am thinking of doing this for the railing for a stairway and am wondering what type of rod you used and if you think it would be strong enough to use as a railing. »
Anne DeCocco I love this look too. If I were going to do it, I'd start where I often go--strolling down the aisles of my local big box hardware stores. For this we'd head to the plumbing section first and look at the selection of metal rods. This color is very modern, but also consider copper. It's a warm look and a little different.
Love the Partition in living room! As you have done it? - Maybe you could give me the drawing you did abutting metal rod to a wooden shelf? Thanks in advance! »
8. A curious separation. You can use wood to contrast a predominant material, such as metal. In this case, the wood breaks up both the vertical nature of the screen and its smooth metal texture.
Add interest and practicality. "This entry hall screen is made of walnut, acrylic and steel rods," says Matthew Hufft of Hufft Projects. "To break it up a bit, we wanted to give the appearance of floating boxes, which are also practical since they can be used to store things like visitors' hats and gloves. The walnut stools provide a place for guests to sit down when they take their shoes off."
