Michael Abrams Limited Thanks - the shower is approximately 42" x 72", the bench is supported by structural steel wall mounted supports and the bench is just a couple of inches from the glass.
Michael Abrams Limited The shower was designed with a recessed pocket for a light strip as well as (2) halogen recessed fixture, all designed for a steam shower.
RE: the polished nickel or chrome shower glass channels - Hello! Can you tell me if you use aluminum or brass channels to hold the shower glass panels? I am doing a steam shower with polished nickel hardware and don't know if I should spend the extra money for polished nickel coated brass channels or if aluminum with a polished nickel finish is ok. Also, any recommendation on how wide a swing shower door should be for a steam shower? Many thanks!! »
superstraw Wow! That's nice. Did you use ThermaSol's PRO Series system? You know it's the best. They even have an App the runs the whole thing from your iPad or smart device.
Guardian ShowerGuard Good morning, I work for Guardian ShowerGuard and would be more than glad to answer any questions you may have on the product. Our website is www.showerguardglass.com and you can email me at hlupu@guardian.com. Have a great week.
What is the name of the marble used throughout the bathroom? - Could you please share the name of the marble used and type of finish (polished or honed)? Also, did you use any special sealant for protection and do you recommend a specific product for regular maintenance such as a cleaner/sealer? This is a gorgeous bathroom! »
Michael Abrams Limited I use a squezze (?) to remove the water droplets everytime I shower. It only takes a second and makes regular shower cleaning much easier.
Shower - Is this shower a stream room as well? I want one!! If you could give me as much information as possible as I'm looking for this type of shower/ bathroom. »
Michael Abrams Limited The toilet is behind the painted gray door. On the other side of the shower behind a similar door is a stackable washer and dryer.
Floor drain - Wondering how much the shower floor slopes and where can that drain be purchased? It's gorgeous not to have a floor drain in the middle of the shower »
Michael Abrams Limited Thank you - the floor drain is known as a trench drain. Any good plumbing supply house can provide one. The slope was determined by the tile setter but it is no different than a regularly sloped shower tile floor. Best of luck!
You are so generous with your information!! Thank You!!!!! - Michael, you just seem like the nicest guy in the world. You are so generous with your help and information!!! The world needs more people like you. It is so OBVIOUS that you LOVE what you do. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. I truly appreciate you!!!!! »
Michael Abrams Limited Wow - what a great way to start the New Year. Thank you very much for your kind words. I do love what I do and I am continually humbled and inspired by the many followers from Houzz. As corny as it sounds I am true believer that you get back what you put out. Wishing you beautiful and happy times in 2013!
Really like this shower? What would you guess would be the price to have a shower like this built? - I am looking to build a shower like this with similar space. what would the cost be to have a general contractor come in and build this? Just a round about estimate. »
John Whipple - By Any Design ltd. $15,000-$30,000 for the steam shower. This would be a close guess. You could easily spend just that in fixtures if you where not careful.
Mirror over vanity? Source and/or manufacturer? - You have already been asked seemingly every conceivable question re this great space.... However, I am looking for a great vanity mirror and really like your choice here. If you're not "question-exhausted" already, would you mind sharing this info as well? Found the pic on the Boyd site and figured I'd find your work on Houzz. I echo other sentiments when I say you do really stunning work. Great job on this and your portfolio in general. »
madzech Michael, you just seem like the nicest guy in the world. You are so generous with your help and information!!! The world needs more people like you. It is so OBVIOUS that you LOVE what you do. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. I truly appreciate you!!!!!
Natalie Jewell You're a very patient man on top of all that. Some people are asking questions that have already been answered...more than once sometimes....yet you don't have any hint of impatience in your replies. 'hats off to you. I'd feel like saying "people....please...I beg you....please read the other posts before asking me a question. I feel like a broken record".......plastic disc things that contained music for those of you un40ish like myself! Great work all around :-)
Love the colors! Is it strange to have the sinks (and mirrors) opposite each others? - Do the mirrors reflecting back and forth cause a fun house effect? »
Regarding the vanities, marble finish , and vinyl tile paint analogue.... - We are redoing a bathroom and love your design. I would first like to thank you for posting your responses to questions on Houzz. It is so gracious of you. We are considering a similar bathroom but have a couple of questions that haven't been addressed on the site. First, do you buy the vanities, then have them stripped and painted? Second, would porcelain tile accurately mimic honed carrara or calacatta gold? My gut feeling is that there is a certain translucency that probably can't be done in porcelain despite the insistence of the tile merchant. Third, would there be a paint analog to the vinyl wallcovering? We appreciate your time, and if you don't have time to answer we understand. Thanks again for posting your answers on Houzz. »
Michael Abrams Limited Thanks for the kind words. The vanties were custom designed and finished in semi-gloss paint. There are some awesome porcelain tiles that mimic carrara or calacatta gold, try Stone Source in Chicago or The Tile Gallery in Chicago. This room i sfinished in a vinyl wall covering that has some subtle texture - a paint will not give you the same look and feel. Best of luck! Mike
Same material - Are the shower, the counter tops, and the floor design with same material, some kind of calacatta marble or porcelain tiles? If so, don't they look too busy? »
missyme And it's sooo not busy. Beautiful design as always, Michael. I love seeing everything you do. I think you are a master of understated elegance.
We are disigning a steam shower and have chosen a calcutta look alike porcelain. We were told real marble would not be a good choice for steam showers. As for the shower floor tile the only coice I seem to have is real marble. My question is how is the marble performing in the steam shower? »
John Whipple - By Any Design ltd. Natural Stone is a scary choice for a steam shower. I have seen the ugly side of cheap carrera turn to a rust coloured mess in a multi million dollar home. Buying good quality stone and if possible testing it prior to installation is key.
Our last white carrera steam shower was all solid slabs. I used some off cuts and soaked them for two days and then dried. The marble did not leak any mineral and the colour held true.
A porcelain tile is always a better choice. If you must have real stone remember that you are working with Mother Nature and sometimes she is not so friendly...
What a great steam shower. Is the bench designed with a metal cleat system or just let into the wall slabs?
Thanks for any insight!

Michael Abrams Limited The marble slab bench is supported by steel mounted to the wall to provide the floating effect. The detailing was done by dSpace Studio in Chicago.
buywhatulove Hi! Just love your work. Wish I lived in Chicago! Can you tell me if that is marble for shower walls/ floor/ceiling and if you have any concerns about using Carrara marble in a steam shower? Love marble and have it all over the kitchen but concerned with using it in the bathroom, especially in a steam shower. Thanks!,
Gorgeous bathroom! How is the bench supported? I want to do a shower like this with glass all the way across with a bench. My contractor says I have to atleast do a kneewall to support that side of the bench. »
Andrea Change This is my dream bathroom..modern, clean and chic. Is there any natural light coming into the spacious because that would make it perfect. Also is that a chandelier in the shower!!l Love the luxe shower chandelier...love love love it!!
Where can I Purchase the interior Humidity and waterproof lighting? - im working on a home project right now and i cannot find that type of lighting with sny of the local vendors »
Showerheads. You don't have to give up a luxe shower experience to save water. Feel virtuous when lathering up with a WaterSense-certified shower head. WaterSense understands that no one wants a wimpy shower spray, so all their approved fixtures tout a "satisfactory shower that is equal to or better than conventional showerheads on the market" while using just 2 gallons of water per minute.Showers typically use less water than baths, as long as they're kept brief. A timer can help you keep an eye on how long you've been lathering up.
