Just for clarification - is the wainscoting about 7' high on the wall? - I'm thinking I'd like to do this in my husband's home office (or something like it) and I'd like to start with the measurements you have and then determine if I should lower the wainscoting based on our house and layout. »
theory9design I have a new construction home - been in about a year now. As with so many "semi-custom" homes the trim work just wasn't done to my standards...so I am planning to redo it throughout the year in the Craftsman style. I have 9' ceilings throughout and was planning on 7.5" baseboards (8% "rule"). I just haven't seen too many pics with the larger baseboards shown well and needed to see something to scale before I set out on my plan. This room is beautiful and knowing the height of those baseboards has helped clarify my thinking -- 7.5" should be perfect for my home :)
7. French doors have a frame around one or more transparent panels, usually filled with glass or a foggy translucent material. There are many styles and sizes of these panels, all of which are meant to maximize light in a room.
7. Let it feel feminine. Don't feel you have to stick with masculine styling. The heather tones in this room are pretty and feminine, and the fitted bookshelves provide space for arranging much-loved collections. The mismatched furniture hints at a more feminine boudoir where a Victorian lady would have done her paperwork.
