Receptacle and switch plate colors - What suggestions do you have with regard to choosing a proper switch plate color that will work well with trim that is painted with Vanilla Milkshake? I'm afraid that standard, pure white receptacle and light switch plates would produce a noticeable contrast with the trim. What do the pros do in a situation like this where the trim is not pure white? Please help. »

giorgetti Does the ceiling detail extend 13.5" past the crown on the ceiling? Is there a particular molding like fry reglet your taper uses to finish the edge of the 1/2" detail? Thanks, your work your firm has done on this home is spectacular.
dSPACE Studio Ltd The first layer is 9 inches wide, and the second layer is 4.5" inches wide, measured from the outer edge of the crown molding. The corners were finished with a drywall edging product and you are correct that Fry Reglet is one of the companies that makes this product. Thanks for the question and good luck with your project!

inishka_at Thank you very much for your reply... Is it poplar a wood from a tree?
As this part of the world we use gypsum or it called as Plaster of Paris. Its a powder mixed with water and some glue to bind then can mold to any shape.
dSPACE Studio Ltd Poplar is a wood species that is often used in projects where the wood will be painted because it takes paint very well, and the result is a nice smooth finish. In this project the crown, base and picture mold are all custom profiles created from poplar and painted at the same time as the walls. In the US, the top layer of a wall (the part you see) is a material called gypsum or drywall. In other parts of the world, or in older buildings here in the US this wall material might be plaster. In either case, the wood trim is typically applied to the wall and then painted.

This room is beautiful and I absolutely love the mirrors. I would like to add an oversized floor mirror to my dining room. How do you keep the mirror from moving. Do I need any speacial tools? »
Bentley Design We have custom built a number of these larger mirrors, we typically use 1-1/2 inch x 3 or 4 hardwood lumber. That with the mirror glass which is 3/8 inch makes for a heavy yet obedient piece of furniture. Just place it where you want it and say " don't go anywhere " it won't I promise. If we can help you design one for your very own give us a call 727-631-2882.
Hello -- I'm one of the designers who writes regular featured Ideabooks on Houzz. I'm preparing one on crown molding and will be including either this photo or perhaps the one of the master bedroom in this home. I was wondering what the ceiling height is in this room and/or the master? Thank you. »
Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR Hi Kevin, thank you for the detail shot. I actually need you to upload it to your own set of photos rather than in the comments here. That way I can click "add to ideabook" and it will automatically populate your business name on the photo and link to your profile. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
This beautiful home is more contemporary in architecture than the previous two examples. The furnishings are clean-lined, and the neutral color palette feels calming and serene. The ceiling is still pretty high at 10' 6", according to the architect. They chose crown molding in a very simple profile, free of any pattern or ornamentation to fit the space. But before you pass on by thinking this would be easy to duplicate, the next photo shows a detail that makes a difference in the richness of the look without calling overt attention to itself.
