A place to sit in the foyer to put your boots on, ( and take them off), is an essential thing to have in New England. Deep paint colors help furnish the space and make it interesting. Making your client's artwork work in a new enviornment is always a challenge.

You can paint the living area a lighter shade of the colour it is currently, and the foyer the colour that the living area is currently, but with less of the gold tone.
What does the kitchen look like at present?

You should look to the accent pieces you have and love.... draw color from them....the foyer would be nice in one of the greys in the carpet ( darker ) then use a lighter version in the dining area ( see if there is a grey or grey beige in the large painting ) these would flow nicely into the light green in the other room if you choose to stay in that color ( maybe chang eit slightly to a more sage green.... I would also suggest stopping in your local paint store and getting some sample colors. Many places have these small containers you can buy for a couple of bucks..... it is certainly worth spending a little to be sure... paint a nice size square on the wall and lokk at it in the different lighting of the day and see what you think..
Good luck!
