Formal Garden

An abandoned orchard became the setting for this magnificent estate. Perched on seven acres, with commanding views to the north, there was ample opportunity to create a property with a sense of presence and permanence. The selection of local materials and elements that relate to the vernacular of the region, provide a true New England sense of place. Working with the architect and builder, we located the house to take advantage of sweeping views, particularly from rooms most frequently occupied. We relocated the garage doors from the front of the house to the back, creating a service area away from the arrival area. Large granite walls, characteristic of the area, were designed as extensions of the architecture, connecting the residence to the landscape.
