I've been contemplateing a pot filler. what are the pros and cons? - I've been thinking about getting one of the pot fillers at my oven.
What are the pros and cons? »
Murphy & Co. Design A potfiller adds the convenience of adding water to pots without having to move around the kitchen to get the water and eliminates the need to then carry the heavy pot filled with water to the cooktop. Thank you.
Richard Schneider Kitchen Designer I quess it is Giallo Shivakasy. Gold Brown Ivory looking material from India. In the states it is called Ivory-Brown i believe.
Desperate for the name of the paint color used on the cabinets! Can you share?? - Desperate for the paint used on the cabinets please!! It might just save me from getting new countertops!! »
Granite Grannies Granite is hard to get a good look at, but it could be a Golden Beach Granite or Solarius Granite. You'd definitely get the same look from those at least.
csterbenz How far is it from the refrigerator to the sink? I am thinking of doing a very similar layout but am worried about the distance between the two. Do you have a picture of the wall the refrigerator is on? Thank you!
help on placing beams on the ceiling - We are building a new home and love the look of the beams on the ceiling. Were the beams installed first or after the placement of the kitchen cabinets? We're trying to figure out how to trim them out. We would just be installing decorative beams not support beams.
Thanks »
Love the open feel. Is that an industrial I-beam sitting upon the columns? - I want to open my kitchen out someday and I have a feeling I would need to account for it being load bearing. Just wondering if I should go with the normal wood beam or I-beam. Recommendation if you have any? Thank you so much for your assistance. »
Murphy & Co. Design This wasn't a bearing wall location, so there was no need for major structural considerations. Every situation varies, I would recommend consulting with your contractor and structural engineer. A lot of contractors prefer wood, but the span and loading may dictate steel. Best of luck.
andreafb The NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Asssociation) issues kitchen planning guidelines and Guideline No 6 suggests, for work isles, 42" for 1 cook and 48" for multiple cooks. See nbka.org
Love the layout of the Kitchen - Dining - Family Room - Can you please tell me the dimensions from the kitchen all the way through to the fireplace. And also the width
Thanks so much. »
I have a small kitchen with 6 doors but was able to create a kitchen similar to this one but much smallescale - How can I submit a picture? Would like to show how you can create a great kitchen from a much smaller space. Are these Kraft maid cabinets? »
This pot filler is from Kingston Brass' Vintage Collection and is available at Build.com. You can view this beautiful fixture here: http://bld.cm/Mf1jlj.
smclaughlin I looked at other questions and found Benjamin Moore 1-03 bone white and in Sherwin Williams is the exact color of Navajo White. I know its going in my kitchen!!
jkupersmith Thank you! So, based on these dimensions the frigerator and sink are about 10 feet away from each other. Do you think this is too far for someone with small children who likes to cook?
sarahmoran1 I have a similar sized kitchen, having a 3 ft triangle between my equipment I find it too busy and cramped at meal times, particularly if more than 2 cook together. I think the additional tap over the cooker is the ideal solution for me when I remodel. We work from home with 3 toddlers.
Columns - I went to your website to view more photos of this project and didn't see any showing a view of the other side of the opening to the kitchen (the left side of this photo). I am curious as to whether you have matching columns with equal wall space on both sides and would love to see additional photos if you have any. »
Murphy & Co. Design Hello, there is an additional picture standing in the dining space (which is to the right of this pic) looking into the kitchen on both our website and in Houzz. thanks.
Murphy & Co. Design hi, it is recessed slightly to allow for a plate ledge, but we couldn't go back too far due to the hood vent going up inside the cabinet. thank you!
Murphy & Co. Design Hello, this was a custom designed kitchen by our firm, and was custom built by a sub contractor that the General Contractor chose. Thank you for your inquiry!
What is the height of the island? Is it taller than the other kitchen counter tops. - I also like the one level island but was wondering if it is ever higher for a more comfortable level. »
Emily Hurley It's so hard to tell sometimes with photos. It definitely looks taller in this photo, but I'm not sure if that is just distortion from the angle.
I see that your indicated more pictures on the www.murphycodesign.com website but wen I went to the site it doesn't allow you to go to a selection. My husband and I are buildnig a home and the layout is a V, you indicated this kitchen has a U shape, I really would like to see more pictures so I can get ideas for out kitchen. »
freddy0302 I'm trying from a home computer and no luck. It brings up at site that flashes different images but doesn't give you the option to select on anything.
I'm trying to design this kitchen in my blue prints but where can I get the layout of the rest of the kitchen? I cant see where the fridge or pantry would be located. »
Murphy & Co. Design The distance between cabinets at the sink to the face of the Refrigerator (not shown) is 15'-9". The distance between cabinets (either side of cooktop) and the ceiling beam on left is 10'-0". Thanks.
No question, but compelled to tell you that if I could name this kitchen I would call it Serenity's Kitchen, what an exquisite overall design, absolutely the most beautiful kitchen I have ever seen, just had to tell you...OMG...perfection at it's best...Oh boy, do I wish!!! »
maureena1 My Husband and I LOVE THIS KITCHEN!! We are building a home in a Community named Serenity Pointe. This is the kitchen we would like to put in our home. Serenity is it!!
wpcoz What we have discovered is that clients prefer one continuous work surface versus the two levels. Our clients are also saying that tall bar type seating is less desirable as well. Hope that helps!
dotti123 Tks I agree But it appears I have to adjust myself to the fact I have granite top and it is presently 2 levels, I checked on cost to change it but it was very costly.
Murphy & Co. Design Thank you for your inquiry. Per our clients' request we are not able to share the floor plans for this home. Additional photos can be seen on our website (www.murphycodesign.com) under "Portfolio/ Harrington Road Residence." Hope that helps!
murphy6895 Are the fridge and oven on the back wall with the cook top or one the adjacent wall side by side on either side of the walk way you mentioned?
I just wanted to say this kitchen is almost EXACTLY how I have envisioned my kitchen we are currently working on. The cabinets, marble/granite color, iron fixture, wooden beams, etc...So nice to see my "vision" and that it looks good. We were doing darker floors though and walnut island top. Do you have any other photos posted? Maybe of the refrigerator side? »
heathermm Yes, I saw that one too. Thank you. And, I realized my other favorite kitchen was done by you guys as well. Too bad you aren't in Atlanta!! Keep up the inspirational photos!
Murphy & Co. Design Ha! That's funny! We do work across the country, so if you're having difficulties getting the kitchen you want, please give us a call!
Murphy & Co. Design Yes, the doors are custom. The room to the left of the kitchen is the Dining Room, and then the Great Room is to the left of that (all of them are open to each other). Thank you.
Bruce Kading Interior Design Hello! The ceiling color is the 1/2 formula of the walls, that's what we typically recommend for ceilings. The wall color is Benjamin Moore AC-5 Springfield Tan cut in 1/2 with white, any home improvement store should be able to do this for you. Good luck!
Bruce Kading Interior Design I'm so sorry I gave you the wrong information, I went to check our records and its actually Arandis Granite, we purchased it from Capital Granite in Minneapolis, but slabs will vary so its best to look at your local granite supplier to see whats available. I attached a picture so you can see a close up of the sample. Hope that helps!
Bruce Kading Interior Design We were the Interior Designer on the job and the cabinet color and painted trim throughout the house is Benjamin Moore I-03 Bone White, thanks for asking!
Bruce Kading Interior Design Thanks for your question, the knobs and pulls are made by Emtek, we purchased them from a local showroom called The Brass Handle in Edina, Minnesota.
Island Width - Hello, what a gorgeous kitchen, a timeless, classic gem :) Is the island width a standard or did you use shallow cabinets to fit it in the space. We have a narrow kitchen and are debating creating a narrow island to keep a spacious distance between the cabinets. Thank you! »
Picture frame backsplash - I love the little ledge incorporated into the picture frame above the range. Is this made from tile also or is it another material? Can you provide the size of tile used to frame that space? Thanks! »
DO: Shoot with a wide-angle lens.A wide-angle lens can capture more of your scene in a single shot and also make rooms appear more spacious. But too much of a wide angle can cause distortion — also known as the fish-eye effect. Use a lens that has a focal length of 14 to 24 millimeters and try to shoot only a few pictures at that extremely wide angle. In this picture, the entire kitchen is captured in a single image, which allows the viewer to understand how the kitchen flows into adjoining rooms. Wide-angle shots reveal a lot about a space.
