The plant in the front is a Bromeliad (Alcantarea imperialis). This one can take full sun and has soft edges unlike typical Bromeliads with saw-like leaf edges. I believe the one shown is about as big as they get (5'-6' across). They are very popular, but can be expensive at this size. This one would be several hundred dollars. Smaller ones start at about $60. They are not fast growers, nor do they send off babies as fast as other Bromeliads, that is why the larger ones are expensive.

The large plant in the back is a stand of Traveller's Palms (Ravenala madagascariensis). They're technically NOT palms. They're constantly sending out new shoots from underground and creating new trees. The large palms/trees have been removed and the smaller, new palms are retained to maintain a lower height. Otherwise they can get quite tall 20-30 feet and more (photo attached). They're very cool looking large trees, but not well suited for this application. Also they need to be thinned out regularly to keep them looking nice/tidy. The are very soft and easy to cut. Don't get the Traveller's Palm mixed up with the White Bird of Paradise. They're both in the same family and they look the same when they're small, but you get cleaner/larger leaves from the Traveller's Palm as it matures and when mature they look VERY different. If you are in South Florida please remember these plants grow fast and get VERY big. Typically people plant them too close to fences and buildings and when they get big, they have to be removed and can do damage. Give this palm/plant lots of room (6-8 feet all around) or you'll have to do a lot of cutting on a regular basis. The plant in the front is a Bromeliad (Alcantarea imperialis). This one can take full sun and has soft edges unlike typical Bromeliads with saw-like leaf edges. I believe the one shown is about as big as they get (5' across).
