Wind, at times, will cause uplift and on this breezeway and the uplift can be significant. I needed a way to secure the columns to the footing below – to ‘tie’ them to the ground so to speak. The inspiration point for the design was the ribbon wrapping sometimes seen on show horse tails or leg wrappings.
