blindsdirectcanada Upholstery while it is possible to do at home if you can find a good upholsterer it looks amazing. In finishings it is always the small things like repeat and how it fits that count and it usually turns out better when someone qualified handles it.
kcreynolds Your sense of color and harmony takes my breath away. Did you study art as well as interior design?
Can you recommend resources where a novice might begin to educate herself on color. Thanks!
Chic Decor & Design, Margarida Oliveira It is an upholstered cornice as noted by the previous designer. When created in a semi-circle version it is referred to as a coronet. I've included a photo of a coronet that I had made for a little girl's room a few years ago. If your budget is tight you can actually create this fairly easily. The semi-circle is actually half of a particle board table top (the kind you purchase very inexpensively to cover up with a table skirt). I had the table cut in half (raw edges sanded), then one side of the velcro was applied to the circle edge, and the other applied along the drapery's top edge on the reverse side. The drapery was then velcroed to the board. 2 "L" brackets (available at Home Depot) were screwed into the bottom of the coronet's straight edge side (the flat side that will be up against the wall), equi-distant apart, and also attached to the wall.
You can use ready-made drapery if needed for this, simply attach the drapes as mentioned and then determine the height by positioning the coronet up the wall so that the drapes still hit the floor on either side of the bed.
Good luck.
McCroskey Interiors As mentioned by the previous designers...yes, this is a bed crown or sometimes referred to as a cornice. I agree with B Fein Interior design, it is worth finding an upholster to do the work. Cornices/crowns should not be that expensive, it is the material/draperies that hang down that can get pricey. Try researching cornices/crowns online until you get the look you want. Type in "bed crowns or bed cornices" on google and hit "images" at the top of your screen to research the style you want. Print the picture and use that as your starting point for the upholster. Like I mentioned, the expensive part is not the cornice itself but the fabric. Depending on the size of the bed, your cornice will only take 1 to 2 yards of fabric...the draperies will take anywhere from 10-16 yards depending on your ceiling height and width of cornice. If you have more questions feel free to ask.
plfuller I have seen bird cages similar to this one in boutiques here in Texas and the name of the supplier is always Creative Co-op. I believe you need to have a tax ID # to purchase from their online shop. Hope that helps. ;-)
McCroskey Interiors I purchased the bird cage from a boutique in town and do not know the manufacturer. I"m sure a boutique in town could order one for you if you do not have a tax ID. Thanks!
What is the canopy behind the bed frame? I love this room! - We want to do a room like this! We love it! If you could it would help if you told us everything about what and where you got these and what they are. We want to make it just the same as we can. Thanks so much! Please reply. This we want to do for my little girl :) »
Drapes behind cornice?? - Can someone please explain how the drapes are hung behind the cornice?? Are curtain rods used? Are the drapes attached to the cornice itself. I don't understand how the drapes come up the sides of the cornice as well as lay flat on the wall itself »
