Wade Design & Construction Inc FYI, the dark cabinets are cherry, with a very dark stain treatment and a clear finish. It is not a black paint, grain is visible when seen in person. It does not read very well in pictures.
Wade Design & Construction Inc That post houses a steel column which supports the 2nd floor. There are 2 in this kitchen, you may be able to see them both in one of the other pictures. Sorry for the late answer! We've been really busy!
Beautiful! How high is the raised wall (peninsula) -- from ground to the top of the granite? Thanks so much - Beautiful! How high is the raised wall (peninsula) -- from ground to the top of the granite? Thanks so much for the info! »
Wade Design & Construction Inc The lower cabinets are cherry wood, dyed black with an industrial analine dye, then stained with dark walnut oil stain, and clear coated. It is a process that needs to be done in a shop, as the chemicals are not compatible with people living in a house. Up close, you can really see the warm tones of the cherry, but it reads as black in the pictures.
Wade Design & Construction Inc The stone on the fireplace is a thin stone veneer, called Chilton Custom Country Blend, it can be seen at the website below. It comes from Wisconsin, where this project is located, so our source was not far away. The stone is set on concrete block like tile, and then grouted with mortar. It is approximately 1 1/2" thick.

Wade Design & Construction Inc I am not sure of the brand, but it was purchased at City Lights Design Showroom, Brookfield, WI http://www.citylightsdesignshowroom.com/. They would have information on it if they saw the picture.
Wade Design & Construction Inc At the square ends of the black top, the width is about 14". The curve bells out to about 20" at the center. The center section of cabinets is only half as deep as the end sections, so the knee space is comfortable across the entire seating section of the bar.
Patti Sills Thank you so much. I hope it's not too much of a hassle, but I have been looking for new counter stools for more than two years. In early May I ordered four Nichols and Stone metal bar stools from Stickley Audi and learned just last week that the order hadn't even begun to process yet and that it would take another couple months. Needless to say, I cancelled my order and am back to square one. I want transitional style metal and leather bar stools and am especially eager to find something with metal legs, given how much they get dinged around by people, the vacuum cleaner, the dog, etc. I'm sure that's more information than you needed or wanted, but it's my frustration that's talking. Thank you again for looking into this further. Sincerely, Patti Sills
Wade Design & Construction Inc We used a honey travertine 12x12 behind the stove on a diagonal, with the same stone back lit above the stove for a night light and accent.
What kind of granite on the counters and what kind of surface on the bar? - What kind of granite on the counters and what kind of surface on the bar? »
Wade Design & Construction Inc It looks very black in the pictures, but in person it has a lot of depth, larger crystalline formations, and is has a very dark brown cast to the black appearance. It is not gray, for sure, and does not have the blue-ish quality of slate. It has lots of depth and richness, hence the name (Just my opinion though!) Rich Paradise also comes in a "leathered" finish, it's a less shiny (think satin) and has a texture you can feel, it is not perfectly flat, but feels smooth in a natural kind of way, as though it was polished in a mountain stream. It is great for spots like wet bars and buffet areas.
MY BAR WILL LOOK ALMOST LIKE THIS "L" WITHOUT CURVING. AND THERE WILL BE COLUMNS ON THE BAR TO THE RIGHT LOOKING INTO DINING ROOM WITH DROP DOWN GLASS CABINETS I HOPE
