Cynthia Taylor-Luce That's beadboard, I think. It comes in sheets with the grooves cut in to look like tongue in groove planks. In older homes it was actually planks that fit together and were attached to the ceiling. I am guessing in this case it's a more modern house and the simpler product was used.
